This Mii is canon. That means this Mii actually exists in the Wii Sports/Wii Sports Resort/Wii Sports Club/Wii Fit/Wii Party/Wii Music games. However some of the information is fanon. Ray is a Mii in Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, and Wii Fit U. He is the coach for Rhythm Boxing in all of those games.
Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, and Wii Fit U[]
Ray appears in Rhythm Boxing. He is the coach that teaches the player how to play the game and also what pattern the player will have to punch the punching bag in front of them.
Interestingly, his name doesn't actually show up in-game. Despite this, we still know his name is Ray because viewing his Mii data file extracted from the game's files shows his name is レイ, which translates to Ray.
Voice[]
Since Ray is one of the only three Miis to have a voice/voice actor, he is very special. He is voiced by Steve Heinke in the USA version of the game. Below are some voice clips of him extracted from the files of Wii Fit Plus:
"Alright, let's do this together."
"As you step forward, throw your first punch from the same side."
"Follow the rhythm, and throw a punch when you see the target."
"Ha. You didn't even break a sweat, did you?"
"Throw your punches any way you want to."
"Yeah! Fight the fat!"
"You'll get double points if you hit with perfect timing. Give it a try."
You can also download all of his clips (these clips and many more) in .wav form in this .zip file.
Trivia[]
- According to the Wii Fit files, Ray's internal ID value is 060. While this may seem to match Shohei's internal ID, since Shohei does not appear in Wii Fit (along with the other 39 Wii Sports Resort Miis), the ID values are able to be assigned differently. Ray's ID is 060 for all three games he's in.
- Ray is one of three Miis to have a voice actor, the other two being Matt and Miguel.
- Ray is voiced by Luke Smith in the PAL version of the game.
- Ray hasn't appeared outside of the Wii Fit games. This is why he doesn't have a ranking.
- Ray is the only Mii to have a completely filled out Mii data file.
- The internal Mii name (レイ) is why we know his name is Ray. We would never have known his name hadn't the makers filled that part out. Most Miis have their Japanese name at most; some Miis don't even have that.
- We also know his birthday is on August 8th, and his creator name is たかむら, which translates to Takamura. This is likely referring to Jun Takamura, who is credited for Field Design in Wii Fit.
- Despite his hairstyle being vertically identical, his Mii data file shows his hair is set to be flipped. This implies he might have had a different hairstyle at some point in his design.
- In Ray's Mii data file, it is shown he's set to be a Favorite, hence the red pants in his images.
- Rhythm Boxing takes place in the same room as Boxing Training in Wii Sports.
- The newspaper snippets about Matt's victories still remain.
- After a short email interview with Steve Heinke, the voice actor for Ray and the Wii Fit Trainer in the USA version of the game, asking him about his roles across the Wii Fit games, he was happy to see people still enjoyed and cared about his roles in these games. He then provided an audio file named WiiFit_Hello.mp3, specifically for fans of the games. Here is that audio file in video form (visuals were not provided by him, but were instead made by HEYimHeroic). https://youtu.be/CT2uGOteLaQ
